The Canyon-like Section of the Valley of the Velikaya River

The nature monument is located on the territory of the Novousitovskaya volost of the Palkinsky district and of the Berezhanskaya volost of the Ostrovsky district in 15 kilometers southeast of the village of Palkino.

A unique, irreplaceable, valuable in ecological, scientific, cultural and aesthetic relations natural-landscape complex.

The Canyon-like section is the largest part of the valley of the Velikaya River, belonging to the main Devonian field of the Russian plate. The outcrops of the middle and upper Devonian are the most ancient pages of the geological records that can be observed on the territory of the region.

They are observable in the valley of the Velikaya river.

The length of the canyon is 5 km, the width is 200-300 m. The height of the rocks is about 9 m.

The area is 210.5 hectares.

It was declared a specially protected natural area of regional importance in 2008.
